About US
In search of the perfect pizza
It was 2008, the middle of a recession and no less than 3 banks had turned down a lawyer and a classically trained chef for a loan saying something along the lines of “we just don’t have an appetite for restaurants right now”. Despite those obvious warning signs, we pushed forward, begged and borrowed $200,000 from 8 of our best family and friends and built out the first iteration of Black Sheep Pizza in what would become known as the North Loop neighborhood of Minneapolis. We have made our share of mistakes, had lots of ups and downs, but not once have we regretted the decision we made to open that first restaurant. We had the time of our lives, so many of our family and friends have worked there with us, even each of our kids have worked there and earned money to go through college and get on with whatever it was they wanted to do. Recently, because of pandemic changes, we are both back in the day-to-day operations of the restaurants and we couldn’t be happier. We work together every day and are constantly reminded of how lucky we are and have been since we started this venture. Lucky for all the people who have worked there and helped us build what we have, a few of who are still there! Lucky for all the customers, old and new that have come through and continue to come through our doors. Lucky for each other, because we still laugh at least once a day as we try to remember why we started this crazy place. The truth for us is that restaurants are fun and filled with interesting people, both customers and the entire group of people we work with. We truly have had the best 15 years of our lives.
